I am talking with you today during the pandemic of 2020. And, you might be wondering what you should be doing for your business during this crummy time. Yes, it’s a downturn in the economy. And, yes, it’s different from other economic issues we have gone through in our lifetime. But, business is still going on. And, you can research it, but businesses that make it out of downturns and do well are often the businesses that continue to keep marketing.
You might be thinking, really? “Should I be marketing at all?” For one reason or another, you might be asking yourself if it’s worth your time or money, if it’s appropriate when others are hurting to spend you energy talking about your business or even celebrating what you have to offer to others.
But, I’m here to tell you now is the perfect time to be marketing your business. Like I pointed out earlier. The businesses that made it out better than others were the ones that continued to market right through the rough patches. Right through the hard times. Right through the rocky periods.
How does the song go? “If you’re going through hell, keep on going, don’t slow down, if you’re scared don’t show it, you might get out before the devil even knows you’re there!” That’s just fantastic isn’t it! Who would have thought Rodney Atkins was talking about the business world?!
Now. There. You see marketing is still important to your business even during the crap times. So, on that note, where should you focus your business efforts. You have a lot of options.
Like direct marketing like fliers and postcards, social media marketing, video marketing, email marketing or my favorite…. blogging. And, you can certainly aim for some of them. But, blogging is your primary key foundation to all your marketing. It’s one of the big reasons I like it and why I always encourage all businesses to start here.
So now you’re asking yourself, what’s the big deal about blogging. Isn’t that already old school marketing stuff? Pthhhh…. Just because it’s been around a long time doesn’t mean it’s dead. It’s still around because it’s tried and true and proved to be valuable to marketing and educating your customers.
The Reasons Why Blogging Is Great For Small Business
1. Educating Your Customer. You might think… this isn’t marketing. You might think this is busy work. People can just look up stuff online. But, it is marketing. Educating is marketing when it comes to business. Sharing your abilities, your processes, your tools, your solutions, your industry info on your website is all helpful to bring your brand to top.
Sharing and documenting your business is going to put you at the top of the people in your industry. It’s an essential part of sharing with your community what you can do to help them. When people come looking for you online, showing them that you are skilled and professional is just exciting! You are the best and that’s why they should call you. That’s why they should hire you! Bam.
Now that everyone is coming to your website to see what you have to offer, blogging and creating content is an easy and fantastic way to show off your skills and how you can be of benefit to your customer base.
Your customers want to know what you can do for them. They want to know that you know your stuff and that you can give them what they want. They also want to know that you know they are important and that you thought of them when you shared these benefits with them. Whew!
2. Blogging Builds Trust. Your potential customer is looking around for someone to work around their home that they can trust. How can you build trust between people you don’t even know if you can talk with them in person? Well… video! But, also, blogging!
Blogging is going to give you a wide range of expertise to share with people. “What type of lawn equipment will you be using on our yard? Well, we use a zero turn mower to give you tight corners around your trees. You can read about it on our blog.” See!
Can you tell us about the chemicals you’ll be using or the process you do when you're painting our kitchen? I can, and you can also read and see some great pictures… you guessed it… on my blog. See how this works? It’s a marketing piece you can use as a reference. Having this option proves to people you are a professional that can be trusted. Are you convinced yet in how important blogging is for your business?
One of the best reasons you need to create content online is to build credibility for your business. When people come to your business website looking for your experience and information on your skills you want to have a positive and authoritative presence in your industry.
Your customers are expecting it. You need to show up because they are going to come looking for you. If they don’t find you your customers will look elsewhere. They will find someone that has the marketing and the business information they want to read and review.
Marketing is a lot of different things to a lot of different businesses and customers, blogging is a powerful way to show off your trade business smarts! It does take time to establish trust with your market and potential customer base. You should start your blog efforts today and not waste a single moment building up your marketing inventory.
3. Sharing News. When you have something great happening in your business or in your industry where do you tell everyone about this? Social Media you say? Yes, of course.
But, your first stop should be to talk about how fantastic your news is on your blog. You own your blog content, social media platforms own the content you put on there, plus if you want to use this great news info again finding it on social media won’t be really easy. It goes away pretty quickly on these social platforms.
On your blog you can tag it and your visitors will see it in the category listing for as long as you leave it on your blog. Perfect.
4. You’re in Business. One reason people don’t really talk about why creating content for your business is because… you are a business. Being in business means meeting certain business tasks as important.
When your customer and potential clients come to your site and see it sort of half put together and not giving them the info they need and want, they probably won’t think you’re much of a real business and not really that credible. Even if they get your name from your neighbor or friend that used your services, when they go looking for more information about you online and find very little or nothing, they will probably look elsewhere. You’re in business, act like it.
There you have it 4 great reasons you need to get on it. Now is the perfect time. Yesterday was also the perfect time, but we can’t go back there...so start today!
