Paint Vivid Pictures With Sensory Language. Avoid dry descriptions and evoke emotional responses by engaging the five senses. Imagine your readers biting into a juicy piece of fruit, feeling the warm wind in their hair as they drive a pedal a new bike, or smelling the comforting aroma of freshly baked bread.

Sensory language helps create rich mental images that can make your product or service irresistible.

Example: 'Instead of 'a comfortable couch,' write an in-depth captivating description. Elaborate on what you are writing about, selling, and thinking. ‘Sink into the plush embrace of this comfortable haven, where worries melt away and relaxation reigns supreme.'

2. Embrace the Power of Curiosity. Don't shove your message down your customer’s or donor's throats. Instead, plant a seed of intrigue. Ask leading questions, tease just enough information to pique interest, and then strategically reveal the solution your product offers. Make your readers really want to know more, like an exciting cliffhanger at the end of a chapter.

Example: 'Start with 'Ever wonder why some mornings, your coffee just doesn't cut it? It's not you, it's your beans!' Then introduce your unique coffee blend that awakens taste buds like a gorgeous sunrise." Or ‘helps you conquer your to-do list!’

3. Tap Into The Tribe Mentality. Humans are social creatures. We crave belonging and validation. Emphasize how your product or service connects your audience to a community, a shared experience, or a cause they care about. Make them feel like part of something bigger, a tribe united by your brand.

Example: 'Instead of “a fitness app with a public group,” call it 'Incorporate your technology and your journey to a healthier, happier you, alongside thousands of supportive community members who cheer you on every step of the way.'

4. Speak Their Language, Not Corporate Jargon. Ditch the stuffy technical terms and legalese. Talk to your audience like a friend, using natural language and everyday expressions they understand. Avoid jargon and complex words; clarifying simply is key to winning hearts and minds.

Example: 'Transform 'synergy' into 'working together like clockwork to achieve amazing results,' replacing 'paradigm shift' with ‘a game-changer that will completely flip the script on your [industry].'

5. Show, Don't Tell, With Social Proof. Testimonials, reviews, and customer stories are like gold when it comes to persuasion. Let your existing customers do the talking. Showcase how your product or service has positively impacted their lives, adding undeniable authority, and social validation.

Example: 'Instead of claiming 'we offer the best cake mix,' include snippets from customer reviews like 'My friends thought I was a professional baker!' or 'My picky kids devoured the entire cake!'

Remember, persuasion isn't about manipulation, it's about connecting with your audience on an emotional and practical level. Skip the boring copy and spice it up to reach more people. Use these tips to weave magic with your words, and watch your copywriting flourish.

Embrace these copywriting hacks and watch more of your audience say 'yes' to your offer.

Unleash the Five Senses: Sensory Language that Sells

Words don't just describe; they transport. We're bombarded with ads, messages, and content vying for a fleeting glance, a click, a moment of our engagement. So how do you, the writer, break through the banner blindness and make your words truly connect with your reader? The answer lies in the power of sensory description.

Think of your mind as a sensory portal. Sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell – these are the keys that unlock genuine engagement. Forget dry, one-dimensional descriptions. Instead, paint vivid pictures with your words, inviting your reader to step into your scene and experience it with all their senses.

1. Ignite the Visual Fires

Don't tell, show. Instead of "a delicious cake," describe "a symphony of textures – moist, fluffy sponge yielding to a decadent swirl of chocolate. Each bite, a burst of rich sweetness that paints your taste buds with delight." Replace dull adjectives with evocative verbs: "Sunlight dappled the forest floor, casting patterns of emerald and gold," "The waves crashed against the shore, a relentless concerto of foam and spray."

2. Let Sounds Move In The Text

Words carry sonic echoes. Utilize rhythmic language, onomatopoeia, and wordplay to create a soundscape that resonates with your reader. Think of the crunch of fresh snow underfoot, the rhythmic click of a typewriter, the sizzle of bacon on a hot pan. Paint a scene with sound: "The crackling fire whispered secrets to the shadows, punctuated by the occasional snap of a burning twig."

3. Make the Touchable Tangible

Textures whisper intimacy. Don't shy away from vivid descriptions of touch. Let your reader feel the cool silk of a scarf against their skin, the sun-warmed sand between their toes, the comforting weight of a loved one's hand. Weave touch into your narrative: "She sank into the plush armchair, the soft leather molding to her every curve, a sigh of relief escaping her lips."

4. Tantalize the Taste Buds

Words can be flavor bombs. Unleash the power of taste to trigger salivation and desire. Describe the tang of citrus, the rich creaminess of chocolate, the warmth of spice on the tongue. Make your reader yearn for your product: "Each juicy grape, a burst of sunshine on the tongue, a symphony of sweet and tart, begging to be savored.

5. Unleash the Scent Sensations

Aromas evoke memories and emotions like nothing else. Don't underestimate the power of smell. Capture the scent of freshly baked bread, the salty tang of the ocean breeze, the comforting aroma of freshly brewed coffee. Transport your reader with scent: "The air hummed with the earthy scent of pine, and a hint of campfire smoke, painting a picture of crackling flames and starlit nights."

Sensory descriptions are not decorations; they are tools. Use them strategically to build emotional connections, drive action, and make your writing truly unforgettable. Don't be afraid to experiment, to delve into the unexpected, and to play with your reader's senses. In a world of digital noise, let your words become a sensory feast, a symphony of engagement that breaks through the banner blindness and leaves a lasting impression.

By using these tips and your own creativity, you can craft sensory descriptions that captivate your readers and make your writing stand out from the crowd. Drive Traffic - A lead reason blogging is helpful for businesses is the traffic it can drive to your website - or other location. Sharing your content and posting it in a variety of places with a link to your website will encourage your customer base to follow over to your site. It’s really that simple. Writing content your clients are interested in will lead people over to learn more. It happened to me on LinkedIn just last week and the info could change our life!

2. Sharing On Social Media - People want to hear from you and build trust with you. Sharing content from other people is valuable, but there is nothing more helpful than sharing your own info. And, sharing info from your own website builds a link between someone they have seen to someone they can develop a relationship with. Posting your content on your social media will also allow for constructive engagement.

3. Convert - Speaking to your client base and encouraging them to act can convert passive followers into supporters and believers. Remember, it’s important to speak to the client and not to your peers.

4. Authority - As you build on your marketing with positive valuable content you will reach your target market on their level. Continue to do this and your brand and you will be noticed as an expert. It often doesn’t happen overnight, so developing a consistent approach is essential.

5. Online Search - The more content you post on your website the more search engines will also believe you are an authority. Search engines like the consistent website activity - it signals your site as an accomplished business. One that should show up during a search.

6. Answer Questions - Blogging is the perfect place to answer common questions (or even not-so-common) your clients have asked in the past. Again, it can be shared around, which will develop proof of your expertise, and drive traffic.

7. Important Topics - There are many events, projects, and changes to announce that will make great blogging content for your business. Sharing this content on your website will create a well-rounded strategy that will attract and captivate customers. Outbound marketing is more of a shotgun way of marketing to your community and the world. You will put out something that is more of a cold outreach type of marketing.

Outbound marketing is going to be something your business puts out there in hopes that people will reach out to you for what you have to offer when they are ready for your service. It can also be a way of just getting the message out that you are a business that can help people looking for things.

TV Ads

Radio Ads

Mailers and Postcards

Cold Sales Letters

Cold Email

Billboards

This is just a small example of ways you can outbound market to the world. But, you probably get where I’m going with this. You are sending your info out there to attract attention and make people aware that you are here.

It can take a lot of time to reach people this way. Just think about it from your perspective. You drive down the road, you see a billboard. “Oh, them.” You aren’t buying directly from that billboard. But, if you need what they have to offer sometime in the future, you might remember them and reach out to them.

Outbound marketing is a great way to get your message and your brand out into the community. It can be helpful to local-type businesses because of the placement of your copy and ads.

I send out Sales Letters to people in my community. “Hey! I am here if you need some copywriting or content creation for your business.” OR “When you are ready to move away from doing your own content or copywriting, I am here, right in your own community, and ready to help out!” You can see how this works.

Sometimes I hit people at the end of their buying cycle. They have been thinking about having someone help them in this area for a while and here is someone. They are right here in my town, let’s reach out. And, then I get a call or email.

They might even go over to my website and make sure what I have to say in the promo material is who I am and I can actually do what I say I can.

You can see how this can be a long game. But, you have probably been on the customer end and see why it works this way. Do you buy instantly from a postcard mailer? Sometimes yes, and sometimes no. Do you keep postcards from people you might want to work with in the future?

So, that sums up outbound marketing and how it can benefit your business. We also talked about expectations. It can be a great option for your business, but never expect this type of marketing to be something it isn’t.

You might also think of this as the top of your marketing funnel. You are making people aware of your brand and what you offer.

What Is Inbound Marketing?

Now we can talk about inbound marketing and how it can work for your business.

Inbound marketing can also give your brand more awareness of course, but it is going to be something people find softer. More gentle, I guess I’d say. Inbound marketing will be more engaging for your prospects and it will be something they more often seek out on their own - whether they know about you or not. Often, inbound marketing is more educational or entertaining.

It can appeal to your audience and target market and draw them into what you are talking about. You will probably create more interest in this way after you have created awareness. And, share what you have to offer and how it can help your prospects.

Some people call this the second stage of the sales funnel and some say it’s in the first. I find it can really be both. It can help raise awareness for your brand and it can also be a way to connect with them after they are interested.

Inbound marketing is one of my favorite ways to market my business. Even if outbound is also effective for me.

Inbound Marketing Examples:

Blogging On Your Website

Social Media Content and Marketing

Lead Magnets

Video Content On Business Website, Search, and Social Media

Email Marketing

SEO

Other Search Like YouTube, Pinterest, Quora

Inbound marketing is now one of the lead ways to educate your prospects and help draw them to your brand in particular. If you can make them aware of who you are and how well you can help them, they will get aware, interested, and start to consider you as the solver of their problem!

Is Inbound Marketing Important?

In this day and age, yes. Inbound marketing creates a nice connection from being aware that you are in business to yes, we are competent and can get you results. It can actually bring you leads for your business as well. Yes, it can.

You have so many great options to turn interested people into customers now. With inbound marketing, you can now tell them how you can help them. Show them how you can help them. And share with them who you have already helped. (plus a whole lot more)

Some inbound marketing you can even track and see how well it’s working for you and if you should make changes to make it more appealing or helpful.

Outbound marketing doesn't allow for a lot of that. A little if you use codes. And, coupons could be tracked.

Inbound marketing is a must for most businesses.

Inbound And Outbound Marketing

You can see how both of these marketing strategies can help your business build more leads and have more success in your industry. They can be short or long. Often they are long to include many items that will show you and prove to you how fantastic the item is. And, how happy you will be that you bought it!

A Sales Page is online. Often a sales page will show up when you click on an online Ad or a link talking about the problem or offer. The sales page might include the cost of the item you are considering buying. Coaches and course providers often use these to try and sell their products online.

What Is A Landing Page

A web page online, the landing page is something that presents a place for your prospect to sign up and get something in exchange for their email address. You have probably seen these as well.

Often, you will click on an offer for something free and it will take you to a landing page. Like this. Or it can just come to you in your email as well.

What Is A Squeeze Page?

Similar to a landing page, it’s kind of a combination of that page and a sales page. A Squeeze page has a lot less copy than a sales page but is still geared to capture your email address with something you find enticing.

Some people say a Landing Page could be longer, not followed by a thank you page, a stand-alone page, and other intricacies. You will see sales copy in other areas of your marketing as well, like on your website or in your email funnel. This kind of copy is written in a way that is doing just what it says it’s doing… selling. The copy or words are written in a way to be convincing, persuasive, and informative. They can also be educational and/or entertaining.

Sales copy is geared to grab the prospect's attention and draw them in.
